So my brother, Robert, is graduating from KU Medical School in 11 days, just like I'm graduating from KU...so having been through the undergraduate senioritis, Dr. Robert has given me these prescriptions for final semester papers and finals:
For papers:
no matter what the required length is...make it 6 pages, only spend 10 minutes per page (including research, typing, editing), you're done in a hour.
For finals:
[direct quote]
"Uh...final? Hello! This is your last year, if you aren't ready for this final yet, don't worry about it! You can stay up all night partying and still be ok for the test. Here's the rule for finals in your last semester: for every credit hour the class is, that's how many half hours TOTAL you should study for it. So, if it's a 3 hour class, just 1.5 hours studying. and, that includes any time you spend in a review class if they offer it. A corolary to that rule is if you want to raise your grade 1 letter grade, go up to 1 hour studying per hour of class. If you afford to lower your grade 1 letter grade, you can reduce studying to 10 minutes per class hour. Of course, you have to run the math to see how you have to do on the test to raise/lower/keep the same grade. So, this isn't a hard and fast rule like the paper rule is, but it's a good rule of thumb."
Thanks, Dr. Robert...you're the best.
