So yesterday I had a talk with my family about what I want to do after graduation. Of course everyone wants the perfect job, but I know that it won't happen for me...just yet.
Seriously, I'm sick of people asking me "So what do you do with a political science degree?"...well...First off, I will not be recieving a degree in political science, but a degree in liberal arts with an emphasis in a particular area (which has basically become a glorified high school degree for my generation). In my case, political science.
Yes, I could have done what my parents wanted me to do and recieved a degree in education classifying myself as a teacher. But after seeing the what both my sisters have gone through with the school of ed. and their own teaching positions...I thought, well if I don't really want to do that anyway, why waste my time. Plus, if I had gone the teaching route...I would have been signed into a scholarship saying I would have to teach in inner-city schools in KS for three years. Not that I don't think inner-city schools need teachers, but if I had taken that scholarship, had my last three years of college paid for, and then decided not to teach, or not to teach in KS...then I would have had to pay back the scholarship in full with 10% starting from the month I would have recieved it. So by not getting a degree in education...I'm saving money.
Of course, teaching is always in need...and the need for conservative political science enthuasists...well, not so much. But hey, if I have to work some crappy job for a year or two before heading to D.C. and begin my plans to change the world...then lucky world.
